Initially not wanting to join the iPhone hype, I found an attractive headline, The Apple phone flop, at CNET News.com by Michael Kanellos. As rumors have circulated around the iPhone for years, and I truly believe Apple wet its feet in the market, triying out in my opinion the rather unsuccesful Motorola Rokr. (Rokr was apparently dubbed failure of the year in 2005 by Mobile-review).

Something might have gone wrong. MacDailyNews writes, that in the latest Motorola Rokr update they are using RealPlayer instead of iTunes, and no, that does not just have to mean Apple pulled out to make their own phone. The cellphone market is saturated with quality companies, that have been in the game since the beginning. And even as much as I like Apple’s philosophy and products, they can’t be best at everything. I think Apple has greater potential innovating in their already established markets.
I especially like the rumor of the Apple Powerbook Tablet, that also just keeps exceling here and here.
Hi and first of all, thanks for the kind words on my Mac Tablet article. Much appreciated!
“I like Apple’s philosophy and products, they can’t be best at everything.”
Yes, and I agree.
However, if you remember, Apple were actually late to the portable music player market, but saw a gap and exploited that gap to its fullest.
And again, Apple will have identified a gap (which I’ve discussed before, but I won’t get spammy on my first comment on this here ‘blog) which I believe is integration with their various software offerings (iCal, Address Book, iTunes, GarageBand, iChat et al.)
For me, Apple never set out to dominate, they just try to be the best, which aren’t the same things…
Some good points, and it will be exciting to see what happens. Yes, they did fill some gaps with those products, so the potential is absolutely there. Appreciate your comment.
Hi Stephen!
As an aside, reading through your ruminations on Technorati .. well that’s how I found out about you linking to an article of mine.
As well as forming a neat metric for your overall ‘blogginess (my word of the weekend) Technorati is also a good way tracking those that offer back-links to your stuff.
In addition, you can raise some traffic to your ‘blog, too. Very much a win-win thing.
So yes, it’s worth using Technorati…
