TechCrunch’s article, where I discovered Cluztr, is titled: Social Bookmarking Meets Big Brother: Cluztr and I think that title sums it up pretty well. Although it is a good concept, I would rather have what little privacy is left which I have surfing on public computers and insecure wifi networks.

Slightly innovating, you can move, rearrange and resize the word processor or spreadsheet windows. The interface is simple enough, and I think that a lot of people will find Peepel a nice office tool.

However, as I have grown more fond of YourMinis (Your Minis Your Online Desktop) I will most likely stick to their “notepad”. But I definitely think if Peepel “merged” with YourMinis, together they would be an excellent online application. I have even read of MyCyberTwin references to a so-called web 3.0. Basically MyCyberTwin is a bot, that can converse on various social-networking sites in your place. It has enough AI, Artificial Intelligence, to actually convey a semi-meaningful conversation.

I believe that we are definitely going to see a lot more of this sort of AI-features, as there is simply not enough time for the web 2.0 generation, bloggers and webmasters to keep up with everything. (See: First Follow-up Web 2.0 running out of time?) Also what are the ethical implications, is the “owner” held responsible etc.?

Check TechCrunch’s out write-up for some interesting example dialogues and comments.

Basically there are several categories, of 20 Things You Didn’t Know About, ranging from topics like Aliens or Skin to Lab Accidents.

The articles I read are written in a light and humorous manner. Though they also portray some very interesting and important facts: “No, you’re not less of a man if you let a garage do the work: One quart of motor oil, improperly disposed of, can pollute 250,000 gallons of drinking water.” – 20 Things You Didn’t Know About… Garbage.
The series is not new at all, but obviously took me almost a year to find.

This approach is rather different from Visualizing your Dictionary that I wrote about last week. And I do like its initial simplicity, the same reason why I liked dict.org. Word source makes it presumly even more easy to search for words by allowing the following syntax:

http://word.sc/your-word

As Michael Arrington also mentions in his post a current and viable alternative is still Google search’s query syntax:

define: your-word

However compared to actual studying for a quiz, test or exam it might not help you all that much. Quizlet on the other hand seems like a good cramming solution, finding its niche in the good tradition of “virtual” flash cards.

Quizlets mission is to make learning vocabulary become more than just another “chore”. And from my first couple minutes of playing around with somebody else’s set of vocabulary (somebody’s SAT preperations actually…), it has given me a good impression. It has even given me an appetite to use Quizlet when my next cramming sessions resume in a couple of weeks.
The whole site and fashionable Web 2.0 solution is created by Andre Sutherland a high school student.

But you have to install VMWare not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not something I want to be the first thing I do when I hit a new stationary computer.

Though looking at the article it does present a pleasant introduction how to have Linux up and running rather rapidly. Especially compared to the tedious hours I used to take on my first installs, when I messed up some setting with the Master Boot Record of one partition or the other.

After reading some of the comments at the bottom of the page, I can’t see this as anything permanent for people wanting to get into Linux. But if your looking for a way to run Linux in your windows only office environment this could work.

If you have played in Apple’s terminal, or any other *NIX system the chances are there that you have done some piping with your commands. Remember: || … Now Yahoo! offers a service they have called Pipes: Allowing you to pipe various commands and services together.

I really like the direction this service seems to be taking, and will be following its success. TechCrunch has more: Yahoo! Launches Pipes. Pipes worked well in FireFox, but almost choked up Internet Explorer completely.
