Although some music videos are good old classics when it comes to visual effects and motiongraphics there is always a chance that you, like myself have not see them all. So I am going to try and dig up some older music videos that I enjoyed.

This first one, I first saw three or four years ago in Cornelius’ music video for the Fit Song. The video is from director Koichiro Tsujikawa.

A great laugh for people who have used motiongraphic applications such as After Effects. The content is an improvised physical enactment of the procedures / software for editing video.

In response to the Modest Mouse greenscreen footage Max Tyrie and his friends created a music video using stop motion and physically printing out thousands of frames of Modest Mouse footage onto paper.

In this clip I especially like the motiongraphics timed to the rhythm of the reading. Not much info about who made it, but the guess is that it is a fan made ad.

Earlier this month I wrote about Motiongraphics on T-shirts, below is another innovating music video that I became fascinated and inspired by. Taking something like a dice, a simple everyday object and making it nicely display mosaic animation.

The music video is directed by Wade Shotter (Factory Films) for the song Ankle Injuries by Fujiya & Miyagi.

In January I was asked if I would produce a short information video, to be used to give practical information at a large youth conference in Stavanger called Impuls. I decided that this would be a good opportunity to further test the principles of a greenscreen. (In my case I ended up using a bluescreen.)

The setup was rather simple, as the nature of the information presentation was supposed to be a rather static “news anchor” kind of host, giving the practical information. I made a quick animation in After Effects (AE), basically mixing 3 Photoshop layers, then animating them using masks in AE. Adding a 3D camera movement created the necessary dynamics in the background. The actual greenscreening, setting up the matte background, went smoothly thanks to an exercise me and Ingve worked on before Christmas.

I am quite happy with the result of my first completed greenscreen project. But I must not forget to thank the people who helped me, so a big thanks to Camilla, Ingrid and Jan Magnus.

With the large amount of music videos around nowadays, I enjoy finding innovating ideas. This music video, D.A.N.C.E by Justice, features motiongraphics placed on top of footage of people wearing t-shirts. The music is also catchy, and as others have commented does resemble Daft Punk.

Stop the Big Brother State is an interesting short animation by David Schart. Their intent is to portray that people are giving up their freedom in exchange for temporary security. Although I do not agree with all their statements, I do definitely see how our freedom will be diminishing.

A large version of the animation can be seen here (flash 55mb). In regards to my design interests I do like the simplistic motiongraphics they have used as well.

I mentioned one of HP’s previous Hands ads in my New iPod Shuffle Ad post in December. This new ad features Paulo Coelho, and has some rather cool motion graphic effects.
