Last.fm my true FM

For years I have been listening to internet radio stations across the globe to fit my personal listening preferances, and escape all the commercials on my local FM radio. I bumped into Last.fm a couple of months ago and I have not turned back since.

Last.fm – the social music revolution (Last.fm About Us). You type in an arist or genre you like and Last.fm will play you music you should like. Based on your previous playlist, as well as playlists of people who have listened to the same song as you it finds your tracks. Last.fm is nicely intergrated into iTunes and other mediaplayers and will register the music you play there and feed that information into Last.fm – Scrobbling.

As I read of Wi-Fi radio slowly making its way into the consumer world, I do hope that Last.fm will jump on that bandwagon and find some way for me to listen to Last.fm on the fly. (A cellphone/mobile java-app would work – especially when wi-fi telephones become more affordable.)
Partially what I would be looking for, although a heavy workaround: Streaming Last.fm to Reciva internet radios (Logik IR100)

We Phone, You Phone, iPhone Everybody

There has been a bunch of similar looking phones to Apple’s iPhone since the first pictures of the iPhone were released. Chinese Meizu is the company that made me smile the most. From the pictures I have seen of Meizu M8 at Gizmodo, these phones do replicate so much of Apple’s iPhone User Interface.

The Gizmodo article talks about how iPhone copy’s or clones can be a good thing for the consumers. I presume that Meizu does not have all the legalities in place, but on the other side Apple, Microsoft and many other the big names have not all played completely fair all the time either?

Even though I had personally thought about keeping away from the iPhone hype and not purchasing one when available, I must admit that the iPhone is sweet. While visiting the States I was able to try out its interface and have some fun with it. With all its PDA features as well as just being a phone it combines my necessities in a practical format. Another friend of mine, who visited another part of the US a couple days ago, purchased an iPhone while on vacation. Now I look forward to see the success or failure of the unlocking process now required to force it to work in Norway.

Team Turntable DJ Champions?

DJ Missbeat posted this video a while back. If you enjoy a mixture of good old classics with the new turntable and dj’s this live turntable performance might fascinate you. Usually I am not normally such a turntable supporter, but I liked the beginning of this mix.

Music Video Dive In the Archives pt. 1

Although some music videos are good old classics when it comes to visual effects and motiongraphics there is always a chance that you, like myself have not see them all. So I am going to try and dig up some older music videos that I enjoyed.

This first one, I first saw three or four years ago in Cornelius’ music video for the Fit Song. The video is from director Koichiro Tsujikawa.

Lip Dubbed Office Environment

This is an impressive video clip that workers at a company called Connected Ventures put together late April, to the song Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger. See the video here.

Discovered this lip dub / sync video clip last week when I was hanging out with Ane. (Btw. congratulations to Ane on graduating from Acta today.) Apparently they recorded the whole song in one take!

Watercolored iPod Ad

Its been a while since I last covered some of Appleâ€™s ads, but here is a nice new ad for the iPod + iTunes. What I interpret as Latin rhythms with colourful watercolor painted backgrounds on the canvas, some how creates a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Dice Mosaic Music Video

Earlier this month I wrote about Motiongraphics on T-shirts, below is another innovating music video that I became fascinated and inspired by. Taking something like a dice, a simple everyday object and making it nicely display mosaic animation.

The music video is directed by Wade Shotter (Factory Films) for the song Ankle Injuries by Fujiya & Miyagi.

Make a Music Video for Modest Mouse or Björk?

BjÃ¶rk is giving anybody who want the chance to make her latest music video, basicly a competition to find the video she likes best. On the competition site you can even download a 3D model of the sculpture or outfit that is already in the album photo. What is great about this competition for a profiled artist like BjÃ¶rk is that it gives all eager video-creators a fair chance to prove themselves.

I found out about this competion at CreateDigitalMotion, they also inform that Apple and Modest Mouse have a so-called â€œgreen-screenâ€ contest. More about the contest and for raw-material downloads check out Appleâ€™s Eduction Community Pages.

Greenscreen footage is great for students, since proper lighting and recording becomes rather pricy. (See my small greenscreen project with a static anchor/host type greenscreen here.)

Motiongraphics on T-shirts

With the large amount of music videos around nowadays, I enjoy finding innovating ideas. This music video, D.A.N.C.E by Justice, features motiongraphics placed on top of footage of people wearing t-shirts. The music is also catchy, and as others have commented does resemble Daft Punk.
